The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) cancelled their vote in Trenton to allow dangerous gas drilling near the Delaware River, where much of N.J.'s drinking water comes from.

The cancellation is great news and likely means they haven't secured the votes to approve the drilling, known as hydrofracking.

This happened because thousands of Rutgers students, and the people of NJ, NY, PA, and DE spoke out, signing petitions, making calls, and writing letters asking the DRBC to protect our drinking water from pollution caused by gas drilling.

We won this round. It's a big victory, but the fight is not over.

Governor Christie is one of only 6 members on the commission, but he still hasn't publicly committed to opposing gas drilling along the Delaware or in NJ.

We'll need to continue to educate Governor Christie about the dangers of fracking and let him know that we don't want our drinking water threatened.
